DENHAM SPRINGS, LA The Denham Springs community came together for free family fun on Saturday, July 30, at Pelican State Credit Union’s 13th Annual FREE Kids Bike Race.

The Livingston Parish Fire Department, Denham Springs Police Department, many local businesses, and 92 kids and their parents attended the credit union’s FREE Kids Bike Race. Kids participated in three races divided by age group: 10 – 12, 6 – 9, and 5 and under.

At the end of each race, one lucky winner was drawn to win a brand new bicycle from Capitol Cyclery. Alexis Blust, Ethan Sherman and Addison Creel each held the winning tickets and went home with brand new bikes.

“Pelican is committed to its Denham Springs community,” said Pelican CEO Jeffrey K. Conrad. “We wanted to give the community a chance to get together and give families the ability to have fun together without having to spend money.”

In addition to the races, race participants received medals of completion, T-shirts and goody bags. There were healthy refreshments, music, games, fire truck tours, a bounce house and face painting for the kids, as well as door prizes for the parents.

Even though the event is structured around the children, the parents had an equally great time. For the first time, the participants’ fathers had a shot at fame by going around the track a couple of times on their kids’ bikes.

The Annual FREE Kids Bike Race is possible because of the support of the Denham Springs community and the event’s sponsors: Outdoor Powerhouse, Dodge City Veterinary Hospital, Flower’s Bakery, Sport-N-Center, Capitol Cyclery, Chick-Fil-A, Canes, Hardees, Advanced Dental, Papi’s Fajita Factory, Don’s Seafood, Livingston Parish Library, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, Denham Springs Fire Department, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Movie Tavern, Walker Wal-Mart, A Bouncing and Sliding Company and Smoothie King.

The credit union is very active in its branch community, regularly giving away thousands of dollars in cash and prizes at the Antique Village Spring and Fall Festivals, as well as sponsoring events like the Denham Springs Main Street Brew Block Party. Pelican members can benefit from free one-on-one credit counseling, a variety of convenient products and services and several opportunities to win cash and prizes throughout the year. For information about becoming a Pelican member, please contact Denham Springs Asst. Branch Manager Christian M. Gordon at (225) 408-6228 or email cgordon@pelicanstatecu.com.
